Saurav Roy

Saurav is a researcher affiliated with the University of Cambridge, specialising in the intersection of finance and systemic risk. He has a background in psychology, economics and social entrepreneurship. He started his career in a grassroots organisation surveying migration patterns of families moving from the coastal regions of Bengal to the urban slums settlements in Calcutta, fuelled by climate change. This early exposure ignited his interest in systemic inequalities and his exploration of bringing about large-scale change. At Sunbird, Saurav leverages his interdisciplinary background to curate and co-host the Self-Side Podcast alongside Chris. He is interested in the neuroscience of change-making and understanding how social entrepreneurs' cognitive, neurological, and social experiences have influenced their unique perspectives of the world and their role in it. Previously, Saurav has held impactful roles at the Carbon Tracker Initiative, Agami, and Ashoka Innovators for the Public. His entrepreneurial endeavours in India earned him the distinction of being named the youngest Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum in Bengaluru in 2017.
